Signs & Symptoms
TDSSKiller initialization upon launch may stop at 80% and crash, hang or not start at all.
System does not boot to normal mode or once boot to safe mode it always boots to safe thereafter.
There may be a small partition at the end of the main drive that is active (check diskmgmt.msc)
No OS listed in boot tab of msconfig.
No OS listed in Startup and Recovery options.
Fix Steps
32-bit ONLY
Run RootRepeal http://ad13.geekstogo.com/RootRepeal.zip
Click on Tools menu and then open Kernel-mode Callbacks.
Click Scan.
Delete any <unknown> kernel callbacks.
Close RootRepeal and try TDSSKiller again.
If TDSSKiller still does not work proceed below, otherwise proceed with cure.
32 and 64-bit
Download FixTDSS http://www.symantec.com/content/en/us/g ... ixTDSS.exe to the customer's machine.
Launch FixTDSS, accept the EULA, click the Proceed button and allow it to reboot the system.
Upon reboot, FixTDSS may be running and detect the TDL4 infection. Allow it to clean the system normally.
Launch TDSSKiller again to detect and clean any infections.
If it doesn't clean it or it doesn't run at all or doesn't detect the infection, run TDSSKiller once more.
Normal mode should work.
If there are still boot issues or problems with TDSSKiller you may wish to escalate to TL.
Do not scan the system with FixTDSS if it doesn't detect the infection right away. This does not resolve the issue!
